Man Causes $1.5K In Damage To Vehicle In Road Rage Incident, State Police Say

A 55-year-old man allegedly caused more than $1,500 in damage to a car during a road rage incident, state police said.

New York State Police troopers in Dutchess County from the Rhinebeck barracks were dispatched to Church Street in Pine Plains on Oct. 24, where there was a report of criminal mischief incident. Troopers said that the victim told investigators that an unknown person punched his vehicle in a bout of road rage, causing the damage.

Troopers were able to identify a suspect, Pine Plains resident William Smith III, who was subsequently arrested on Nov.8. Smith was charged with a felony count of criminal mischief and released on his own recognizance following his arraignment. 

Smith is scheduled to appear in the Town of Pine Plains Court on Dec. 5 to answer the charge.
