New York State Police troopers in Dutchess County from the Rhinebeck barracks were dispatched to Church Street in Pine Plains on Oct. 24, where there was a report of criminal mischief incident. Troopers said that the victim told investigators that an unknown person punched his vehicle in a bout of road rage, causing the damage.
Troopers were able to identify a suspect, Pine Plains resident William Smith III, who was subsequently arrested on Nov.8. Smith was charged with a felony count of criminal mischief and released on his own recognizance following his arraignment.
Smith is scheduled to appear in the Town of Pine Plains Court on Dec. 5 to answer the charge.
